"Back In Your Head"
Our friends Robin and Anne are good friends with the lead singer from The Broken West, so we went to see their show a couple months back at Schubas. It was pretty good, although I have to admit that The Whigs were the highlight of the night. Their energy was really intense and contagious. The reason for the post is that I really liked The Broken West’s cover of ‘Back In Your...
Our trip to Napa & Sonoma
I’m writing a recap of our trip to Napa and Sonoma over New Years so that we can keep a record of where we went (for future visits). Sorry, this will probably be kind of a boring post. Day 1: Silverado Vineyards: We came here more for the view than the wine. The view was really pretty with the vineyard sitting on top of one of the bigger hills in the valley. The wine was just okay. They...
Dinner at Sol De Mexico
We tried Sol De Mexico last night as part of our monthly BYOB dinner club, where we go to a different BYOB-only restaurant in the city with some of our closest friends. The restaurant is pretty far west of the city, but the reviews have been outstanding, and, as many people don’t realize, Chicago has some of the best Mexican cuisine in the country, so we had to check it out. The menu was as...

Why I am voting for Senator Obama
Two tumblogs that I read regularly seem to have similar thinking as I do about the Obama v. Hillary question. You can pick on a few specifics with each candidate to demonstrate a point on why one or the other is the right or wrong nominee. However, as I mentioned previously, at the end of the day it’s the hope/vision vs. experience question. Where people fall on that question will decide...

the obligatory politics post: hillary or obama?
i don’t think a day has gone by over the past 6 months where i haven’t read an article or post about the primaries, particularly something about hillary and obama (with the occasional piece on mccain, edwards, ron paul, etc. spattered about). i’ve attempted to approach the entire election with an open mind — trying to get a decent perspective on the candidates before making...
At an impasse
I just read this excerpt from HBS Working Knowledge about how to recognize when you are at an impasse. And what to do to get past it. I found it particularly relevant since I think that both my wife and I are at a bit of an impasse in our lives. We’ve both been feeling pretty down about work (she much longer than I have) and are ready for a change. I’m impressed that she is taking...
Leaning Tower of Niles →
Did you know there was a half-sized replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in the U.S.? I didn’t until I randomly drove by it the other day. How random?!? According to Wikipedia, it was built in 1934.

celebrity sighting
I had one of my better celebrity sightings the other week in San Francisco. I was staying at the same hotel as the Denver Nuggets and saw George Karl, Melo, and AI. Iverson is taller than I would have thought.

This is an interesting site. 1 item a day at a (supposedly) great price. nothing else. I haven’t been paying attention to the products to see if they carry interesting things…or if they are really good deals or not.

I see links to this site all the time. I haven’t read it too much but the few posts I’ve seen have some good pointers. I’m trying to get up earlier so I can work out, so this post caught my eye
My favorite albums of 2007
I’ve been inspired by all of the “best of 2007” lists I’ve read recently. Enough so that I decided to put together my own list of favorite music from this past year. I have a pretty eclectic taste, so there is probably something that just about everyone would like. I won’t claim to be someone who discovers a lot of new artists — I find...
Burger I must try...and blog to read
Our friends Dan & Katie recommended Kuma’s Corner for one of the best burgers in Chicago. I came across this blog in the process of reading about it…I haven’t read any of the posts yet but what a great idea.
Name change?
I like the name Chester Copperpot just because of the way it sounds. Plus, I am a big Goonies fan. However, I Googled Chester Copperpot and found that it’s quite widely used. There was a band (that was apparently lame) a few years ago with the name as well as a bunch of other random uses. I think I’ll need to think of a new one. My name is too popular to use — always taken.

Wild at heart →
I finally watched David Lynch’s Wild At Heart. I had only seen Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive before and they either went way over my head or they were designed to be incredibly creepy and weird. Well, Wild At Heart wasn’t as creepy as it was more hilarious and weird, particularly all the Wizard of Oz references and the mom played by Diane Ladd. It was worth seeing.
